Prawns are an incredibly versatile ingredient that can be cooked myriad ways. Not just fried or roast, fresh prawns could be cooked in a traditional gravy with tamarind. Check out the recipe.

Ingredients
Few big fresh water shrimp (de veined and cleaned)
Crushed green chillies
Chopped garlic
Crushed ginger
Fresh coconut oil
Grated coconut
Turmeric powder
Shallots
Dried chillies
Curry leaves
5 -6 tamarind bulbs

Preparation
Heat coconut oil in a wide mouthed vessel or uruli
Add the green chillies
Sauté well
Add some turmeric powder, just for the colour
Add the shallots
Sauté well
Now add the ginger and garlic
Sauté until the raw smell is gone
Into it add the dried chillies and salt as required
Add more coconut oil if required
Add fresh curry leaves for aroma and flavour
Add the tamarind bulbs
Keep stirring
Add some grated coconut
Mix well
Add the cleaned shrimp
Give everything a good mix
Add the remaining coconut too
Now pour water; however, do not add water until it covers all the ingredients
Allow this to boil well
Close the lid and cook
When steam begins to escape, pour some fresh coconut oil
Add curry leaves too
The perfectly cooked shrimp and the flavoursome gravy pair well with rice or chapathi.
