Glaring omissions! Website on Kerala culture excludes several luminaries

Many of the legendary directors, cinematographers and poets have also been forgotten. File photos

Imagine documenting Malayalam cinema without referring to legendary actors like Madhu, Innocent, Sreevidya, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Seema, or Manju Warrier! A directors' list without Priyadarshan or Shyamaprasad? Or a cinematographers' list without Madhu Ambat, Santosh Sivan, or M J Radhakrishnan? Shockingly, even notable poets like Balamani Amma, Vayalar, Ayyappa Panicker and ONV Kurup too find no mention.

These glaring omissions were found on the Ministry of Culture website Keralaculture.org. In fact, the names of several iconic actors who made a mark in the Malayalam film industry are missing on the website. They include Balan K Nair, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, Aranmula Ponnamma, Jayabharathi, Lakshmy, Shobha, Pappu, and Mala Aravindan.

C N Karunakaran and B D Datta were missing from the painter's list. Kottarakkara Thampuran and his Attakathas are not found in the list on Attakatha-Thullal literary genre.

Kerala Varma Valiyakoithampuran and AR Raja Raja Varma have been forgotten in the Malayalam poetry category. Poets including G Shankara Kurup were also excluded.

Among the novelists, UA Khader, Unnikrishnan Puttur, Ambikasuthan Mangad, Narayan and others and among the story writers C V Sriraman, Methil Radhakrishnan, Asokan Charuvil, etc are also not mentioned on the website.
