Kochi: Chuvati Fest 2024, this year’s edition of the cultural festival celebrating the tradition of Chavittunatakam, a folk dance drama, has begun in Gothuruth. Kottappuram Bishop Dr Ambrose Puthenveettil inaugurated the five-day festival at SAC Maritime Arts Centre Chinnathamby Annavi Square on Thursday evening at a meet chaired by SAC president Nivin Milton.
The Sports and Arts Club, Gothuruth is organising the event. Club’s patron, Fr Joy Thelakkatt, hoisted the flag, marking the beginning of the fest. People who have proven their talent in different fields were honoured at the meet.

St Rocky’s Nruthakalabhavan, Pallippuram staged ‘Napoleon Bonaparte’ on the first day of the event. The performances scheduled for the coming days are: Sree Dharma Shasthav by Kerala Chavittu Nataka Academy Gothuruth (7 pm, Dec 27), Kottara Rahasyam by Kripasanam, Alappuzha (7 pm, Dec 28), Karalsman by Yuvajana Chavittu Nataka Samithi, Gothuruth (8 pm, Dec 29), and Macbeth by Yuva Kerala Kalasamithi, Kurumbathuruth (7 pm, Dec 30).
On Dec 29, at 7 pm, a documentary on chavittunatakam, titled Thirai Koothu, directed by Keli Ramachandran will be screened. The festival will come to a close on December 30. Hibi Eden MP will inaugurate the concluding meet.
