Kozhikode: Women's organisations have expressed support for a fledgling organisation of women artistes in the Malayalam film industry. They are also vocal in their support for the recently released film 'My Story', featuring actress Parvathy, a prominent WCC member, who has been pilloried online for taking a stand against popular actors.

“By supporting WCC and 'My Story', we are supporting the women as a whole. We should not let a woman suffer for fighting anti-woman attitude and patriarchy in the society. When a person like Parvathy speaks up for herself and the rest of the women, we should stand by her. This is our support to women to bring about gender equality,” says Divya Divakaran, state vice-president of Women’s Integration and Growth Through Sports (WINGS).

Another group, 'Anweshi', led by Ajitha K, would hold a show of support for WCC and 'My Story' in Kozhikode on Saturday evening. WCC members Sajitha Madathil and Deedi Damodaran are expected to participate in the event planned on the premises of the local bus stand. After inauguration, the participants will take out a procession to Kairali theatre, said advocate Sapna PP, one of the organisers of the event. “This is not a women-only event. Everyone who believes in gender justice are invited,” she added.

On Thursday, a similar event was organised in Thrissur under the banner of Federation of Film Societies of India.

'My Story', which is directed by Roshni Dinaker, has heaped numerous 'dislikes' online by trollers for the past comments of Parvathy while demanding elimination of gender bias in films. The songs posted on social media faced many 'dislikes' and WCC Facebook page was 'rated' down by trollers.
