Actress Anumol reveals why she is not part of any associations

I felt free after quitting AMMA: Anumol
Revealing that there are deliberate attempts within the association to promote and demote certain directors, superstars and actors, Anumol said that she experiences immense freedom after she parted with AMMA.

Kochi: Having started her career in the Tamil film industry, actress Anumol entered Malayalam film industry through P Balachandran's 'Ivan Megharoopan' in 2012. The young actor, who wanted to be a part of a movie association opted for an independent path in the industry.

“Although initially I wanted to be part of the actors' association in Malayalam cinema, I never part of any organization. I started getting orders from different corners, regarding which all directors, actors and technicians I am supposed to work with and who all are the ones to avoid. I felt frustrated with the undemocratic mandates the association cast on its members,” Anumol said.

Revealing that there are deliberate attempts within the association to promote and demote certain directors, superstars and actors, Anumol said that she experiences immense freedom after she parted with the association.

“I am an independent actor at present. I am neither a part of AMMA nor of the WCC. I choose my characters and scripts based on my own preferences and ideology. What is the point in being an artist if denied of the subtle freedom it demands!” She wondered.

Commenting on WCC's dissent regarding the re-entry of actress-attack accused Dileep into AMMA, Anumol said that certain changes are indispensable in the industry to cope up with the changing times. “Discourses on gender, equality and freedom are essential in an industry where people from different castes, classes and social strata work in. Only if such discourses arise a time will come in future when any artist who is passionate about his or her art could work without caring about ascribed identities.”

She added that she wants to work in an industry where she forgets about her own gender, caste, class and social status.
