Yesteryear actress Chithra discloses why she vanished

Malayalam film audience cannot easily forget the charming actress Chithra who wowed in the song ‘Neelakuyile chollu…maarikiliye chollu’ from the 1991 movie 'Adwaitham'. Chithra, who was a busy actress in Malayalam and few other South Indian languages, however, had disappeared from the silver screen all of a sudden. Nearly 20 years after she left the movies, Chithra, in an interview reveals the reason why she disappeared from the films.

“It was when I was getting good offers in the movies that my father was diagnosed with kidney ailment. He got scared when both his kidneys failed. So he arranged my marriage not to leave me alone when he dies,” reveals Chithra. She was acting in the movie 'Rajavazhcha' directed by Sasikumar when her mother died. “I was adamant that my father too shouldn’t bid adieu to the world without me being there by his side. So I willfully left movies to take care of him, ” Chitra reasons,

Chithra’s husband Vijayaraghavan is a businessman. The yesteryear actress admits that she refused many good offers thinking that it may upset her husband and in-laws. “My husband actually said that I could continue my profession. So it was with his encouragement that I did movies like 'Mazhavillu' (1999) and 'Soothradharan' (2001) after marriage,” says the actress, while indicating that she is interested in returning to movies if suitable roles are offered.
