She can sing, she can dance and she can talk for hours and hours. Rimy Tomy is known for her lively and spontaneous responses. “Makkale njan thirich ethytto” (Hey I'm back!) is how Rimi gives her introduction for the launch of 'Onnum Onnum Moonu - Season 3'.
When Onmanorama caught up with the bubbly star, Rimi was on the sets of the show and was having a break after the shoot of first episode of Season 3 which will begin on July 29.
Ask her how was it coming back to the show and she said, “This is like my home. I have been here for last two seasons. I met so many people and hopefully I will get to talk with more of them. Onnum Onnum Moonu has given me a big platform to evaluate myself. Apart from the rough idea on what should be shot, I talk with guests without any scripts. Audience have accepted me in the first two seasons and I believe the same support I will get in the coming ones too.”
Chit-chatting is nothing new for the star, but Rimi credits the show team and the channel for entrusting her with the task of interviewing personalities. She got her big break as an anchor with Onnum Onnum Moonu after interviewing Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone on its 80th episode.
“When I was given the chance, I agreed. I started thinking neither could I speak Hindi fluently nor could I speak English fluently. When we reached the venue, there were so many national channels. That is when I was almost went blank. I literally didn't know how to handle the situation. I had met Shah Rukh earlier one time, but I wasn't sure if he would recognise me and moreover how could I ask him if he remembered me. I was tense thinking what will people say if I mess up the whole scene. I calmed myself thinking if Manorama has selected me out of all the people from Kerala, I must be having something different. I somehow got the confidence and assured myself to do well.," Rimi recalled.
Rimi admitted that interview was a grave challenge. "That interview was one of the biggest challenges. Without any preparation, I just wanted to make everyone laugh and be happy. That was the best interview I have done so far. I was given 10-15 minutes. After I was done with all the questions, Shah Rukh and Deepika in turn asked me why did I conclude soon. Deepika told me this was the most lively interview they had today. It was undoubtedly the best compliment I got," she revealed.
Be it doing the fun segment or the pulling legs of celebs, Rimi just thinks of making people happy without hurting anybody. “God has created different individuals with different traits. Just as the saying goes, each person is unique in their own way and so am I. I am someone who enjoys whatever I do. Like everyone, I too have emotional situations but I can't think about those all the while. The mantra for happiness for me is having food, singing, dancing, watching movie”, she said.
When asked: Having met and talked with so many people, can you name a celebrity you are eager to interview? The reply came in a snap. “AR Rahman. Believe it or not, I even booked a ticket and flew to Dubai to attend his show. As an ardent fan, the first thing I would ask him after meeting him is if I could ever get a chance to work with him or at least sing along with him on a stage show,” Rimi said.
Dressed in a yellow lehenga, Rimi was all smiles as she attended a call from the show's producer to resume the shoot and signed off. The show will be aired on every Sunday at 9 pm on Mazhavil Manorama.
