Slain SFI leader Abhimanyu's story to hit silver screen

After RMP founder T.P. Chandrasekharan, slain SFI leader Abhimanyu's story will hit the silver screen.

'Pathmavyoohathile Abhimanyu' will be a tribute to the slain SFI leader from Maharajas College, as well as a means to support his family, its director Vineesh Aradhya said.

The film will be produced by a collective from social media, CPIM Cyber Poralikal, under the banner of Red Malabar Comrade Cell (RMCC).

“Many wrote poems as a tribute to Abhimanyu. We discussed our mission with parents of Abhimayu, after visiting them in Vattavada, held talks with the local bodies there and agreed that a major portion of the profit derived from the movie would go to his family. This may be the first time that a social media group is venturing out with a project like this,” claimed Vineesh.

The film's crew will have a huge responsibility to make it a perfect tribute to Abhimanyu's life story, he said.

“Vineeth Viswam has agreed to do the lead role. Audition for the movie will be held in Kozhikode on Saturday and the shooting is scheduled to begin on August 18. It is a low budget film. The actors will be new faces” he added.

The story is by Vineesh himself, a first timer, who has also acted in a few movies before. Songs are by Ramesh Kavil, Ajay Gopal and CP Aboobacker. Shaji Jacob will wield the camera.

Abhimanyu, 20, was stabbed to death and two others were injured in an attack allegedly by members of  Popular Front of India, its student outfit Campus Front and political offshoot Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), at the Maharaja's College in Ernakulam on July 1 night. So far, 14 people have been arrested in connection with the killing. Abhimanyu was a second year degree student at the college.

Last week, the police had arrested Maharaja's College student and prime accused in the case, Muhammed. Muhammed, who is also a third year Arabic degree student at the Maharaja's, had allegedly organised a gang of 15 to 17 men to attack SFI activists in the college campus.
