Kaniha recalls traumatic days as her baby battled for life

Actress Kaniha calls her son Rishi a ‘miracle child’ as he successfully battled a severe heart condition which was diagnosed immediately after his birth. In an interview with the popular women’s magazine 'Vanitha', the actress recounted this traumatic episode in her life.

“Even though the doctors said that he wouldn’t survive, Rishi fought back to life like a real warrior,” Kaniha said. She had given birth to her son at a hospital in the United States, and the baby was diagnosed with a severe heart ailment. She was allowed just a glance of her child after which the baby was shifted to the intensive care unit. “They told me that the chances are low that I will see my son alive again. I was devastated. They were snatching away the life which I carried in my womb for nine months. I yelled in agony and pain. The doctors had decided to do an open heart surgery. Rishi would lose his life if it fails. Even if the surgery was successful, it would take some time for him to bounce back to life,” Kaniha recalled those painful days.

Kaniha, a devotee of the Shirdi Sai Baba, prayed hard for her child’s life. “It was for the first time that I had prayed to save a life. Until then I had only asked for a good life. They used to make me sign on many papers. Those were the consent forms which stated that the hospital or the doctors were not responsible if something happened to my son. Finally, I was able to see my child’s face on the 50th day, in the silence of the ICU,” Kaniha narrated.

The actress said there wasn’t an inch left on Rishi’s little body where a needle wasn’t inserted. She, however, is happy that Rishi had survived the hard times even though he had fought for his life in the ICU for almost two months. The actress revealed that the marks of surgery can still be seen on Rishi’s body.
