Thampy Kannanthanam is known as the director who made a superstar out of Mohanlal. Even Pranav Mohanlal faced the camera for the first time for a movie directed by Kannanthanam.
'Rajavinte Makan' in 1986 witnessed the birth of a star. Kannanthanam continued his association with Mohanlal in a slew of movies. One of them was 'Onnaman', in which the junior Mohanlal cut his teeth.
“I had many memorable moments with Mohanlal,” Kannanthanam had said. “Lal acted in a movie I produced. I directed him in several movies. I acted in a movie Lal produced. We even acted together. We had gone through happy moments and sad ones. We even went through life-threatening situations. Those were the times,” Kannanthanam said at a function organised by Manorama Online a year ago.
“Mohanlal is a boon for Malayalam cinema. We did several movies which could not be imitated by anyone. I am happy that those movies are being watched by younger generations as well,” he said.
Kannanthanam directed Mohanlal in 'Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar', 'Nadodi', 'Maanthrikam' and 'Indrajalam'.
