Actress Mayoori Kango's name might not be familiar for many, but there is every chance you would have watched her!
Remember the song ‘Ghar Se Nikalte Hi, Kuch Door Chalte Hi’ from Papa Kehte Hai? The lead actor of the song is none other than Mayoori. On Thursday, the actress was in top trending searches. The reason - the 90s Bollywood actress has now joined Google India as its industry head – agency business.
Mayoori had made her acting debut in the 1995 National Film Award-winning Naseem. Mahesh Bhatt was impressed by her performance in Naseem and offered her the lead role in the 1996 film Papa Kehte Hai.
After Papa Kehte Hai with Jugal Hansraj, Mayoori became everyone's favourite as the grey-eyed pretty lass.
She got big films like Badal and Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet which starred Bobby Deol and Ajay Devgn respectively and a few other Hindi films. She then later left Bollywood and shifted to television.
Mayoori featured in a number of shows such as Kaahin Kissii Roz, Kittie Party, Kkusum and Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat. However, after getting married to NRI Aditya Dhillon in December, 2003, Mayoori shifted to the US and pursued an MBA in marketing and finance from City University of New York-Baruch College – Zicklin School of Business.
Interestingly, Mayoori had left IIT Kanpur for an acting career.
In one of her interviews with a daily, about her acting career, she said, “I did about 16 films, and half of them never released. The 90s weren’t a great time for actresses. All they had to do was dance around trees. So, I wanted to do something else.”
“People should complete their education before they come looking for that big break in Bollywood. Especially the actress, their career in the industry lasts only around 10 years. Have a backup option,” she had said.
And today, there is no doubt that Mayoori is a successful professional.
