Actor Mohanlal has announced the leading cast of ‘Barroz’, his directorial debut. Spanish actors Paz Vega and Rafael Amargo will enact major roles, said Mohanlal in a Facebook video.
Paz Vega is noted for her roles in films like ‘Rambo: Last Blood’, ‘Sex and Lucia’ and ‘All Roads Lead to Rome’. Rafael Amargo will appear as Vasco da Gama and Paz Vega as his wife in ‘Barroz’. Mohanlal himself would enact the title role.
The film deals with the life of Barroz, the keeper of Vasco da Gama’s treasure. Gama entrusted Barroz with the task of protecting his jewels and gold. Barroz would hand over the riches only to the true descendant of Gama.
One day, a boy arrives on the seashore claiming to be Gama’s heir. The story of the film starts from there. Barroz sets out on a journey to find the boy’s ancestors and the trip covers lands across oceans as well as the past.
Shooting of the film will start in October. A 3D movie of international standards, the script is by Navodaya Jijo. Incidentally, it was Jijo who introduced Mohanlal to cinema in his ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal’ 40 years ago. Mohanlal is now turning a director in another Jijo movie.
The chief producer is Antony Perumbavoor, while the cinematography is by K U Mohanan. Apart from foreign actors, several Bollywood stars would appear in the film, which would be dubbed in all major Indian languages. The locations include Goa and foreign countries like Portugal.
