Was dragged into unnecessary controversy: TV actress Uma Nair

Mini screen diva Uma Nair could rightly be called the bold and beautiful actress of the television industry. She is known for her unique choices of characters which offer her ample scope to deliver a power packed performance. The actress is quite active in the movies as well. After conquering the hearts of the television audience with her incredible performances, Uma has ventured into event management business, running a company named ‘Fasiamo Events’.

The actress was in a controversy recently after she claimed that she is a close kin of veteran Malayalam actor Jayan in a television show. But later, Jayan’s niece Lakshmi and nephew and serial actor Adityan had come up with allegations that Uma’s claim is wrong.

Uma, in an exclusive interview, opens up about the controversies, speaks about her business venture and also about her acting experiences.

How did make your way into the entertainment industry?

I had acted in a few short films as a child artiste. Later, I acted in the serials aired on Doordarshan. I played the female lead in the Tamil film ‘Ninaithale Sugam Thanedi’. December was my first Malayalam movie. I have so far acted in 13 movies, 60 serials and a few short films and advertisements. I even directed a short film. I had to take a break while I was acting in the serial titled Makal, owing to some personal issues.

How was your comeback?

I took a sabbatical for a few years. One of the most interesting facts is that I made my comeback through a serial, also titled Makal. Dileep-starrer Kodathy Samaksham Balan Vakeel and Oru Onnonnara Pranaya Katha are my forthcoming movies.

What are your favourite characters?

The character named Priya from the serial Mounam is my favourite character. I am also really fond of the character that I played in my maiden Tamil movie. The character Nirmala that I play in the serial Vanambadi too is amazing. There is a special reason for me to like the character in Mounam. It was the first time that I had played the role of a mother, that too when I was very young.

What is the most unforgettable experience in your life?

I would rather call that experience an unforgettable pain. Some people had turned one of my recent interviews, which aired on TV channel, into a great controversy. A group of people from the industry attacked me for it. I am not someone who is interested to create controversies, neither have I involved in one. But they had dragged me into an unnecessary controversy. Those who are close to me know that I am not vain or arrogant.

Who were behind it?

I am not interested to reveal any names. But I can say that those were the ones who I have trusted and loved the most. I am not angry at them. I am sure that all those who hurt me and made me cry would realize the truth and love me again.

Can you talk about your new venture?

I am running an event management company along with a friend. The company is called ‘Fasiamo Events’ which means ‘Let us make’. We organize events like exhibitions, corporate events, fashion shows, ad film making, media production and much more.

As a woman who heads an event management company, what is your opinion about this field?

I have never felt any gender discrimination in this field. To be honest, I am never ignored, insulted or mentally hurt in this field, like I have experienced in the TV serial industry.

What made you venture into business while being a successful actress?

Veteran actress Radhika Sarath Kumar is my role model, whom I admire a lot. She successfully juggles between acting in movies and serials and running an amazing business as well. My dream is to become like Radhika ma’am.
