Was deliberately dropped from a few movies: Gauthami Nair

Young actress Gauthami Nair is all set to make a comeback into the movies after a long hiatus. She will be appearing in the movie Meri Awas Suno which stars Manju Warrier in the lead role along with` Jayasurya. Though Gauthami’s character in her debut movie Second Show was well received, she wasn’t seen in many movies after that. Gauthami opens up about why she had taken a break from the movies and also about her new film.

Where have you been for all these years?

I didn’t go anywhere. I was working at the Sree Chitra Hispital in Thiruvananthapuram as part of my studies. It doesn’t mean I have quit movies. There were rumors that I had stopped acting. I never said that I quit movies or wouldn’t act in films. But, someone created such an idea and spread it too.

I concentrated on studies as I didn’t receive any exciting offers. I think this move was misunderstood by many. Those in the industry too assumed that I wouldn’t act anymore. However, I was waiting for a good project. No one offered me any roles; neither did anyone call me. This is the truth and nothing else. What can I do if everyone believes in their own assumptions? I could understand the depth of such misunderstanding only when I went to the sets.

Didn’t you try to get movies?

There were instances where I was deliberately dropped from at least three movies. I was dropped after the discussions were done and everything was finalized. It was from someone else that I came to know about it. Those movies didn’t happen for me because of some people who I personally know. Though I was upset in the beginning, I soon got over it. Those were really good movies. I could have comeback last year itself had those movies happened. I am essaying the character of an RJ in Meri Awas Suno. I hope that this would be an amazing beginning. I try to become part of good cinema.

Aren’t you happy that you completed studies?

Yes, of course. I don’t think I had wasted my time. I studied MSc Clinical Psychology at the Women’s College in Thiruvananthapuram. I wish to do research in it. I need to do paper presentations and gain some research experience for that. That is why I am working at Sree Chithra. I need this experience to kick start my Phd. The greatest advantage of studying psychology is that I can now understand people easily. I could easily understand the thoughts of a person if I could meet him once or twice. I am sure that this would help me in the future too.

Didn’t you have plans to direct a movie?

I was very hopeful about that project which was titled Vrutham. However, the filming got stalled due to some issues with the producer. The dispute still continues. Even though some other producers tried to take up the project, it didn’t happen. So, I have temporarily shelved my direction dreams. I hope that everything would be fine soon.
