If you look at a thing from a distance, it looks beautiful is what a Japanese writer once said. So does Hari, in the recently released Mammootty-starrer 'Oru Kuttanadan Blog' directed by Sethu.
To know about Hari, one has to know about his village – Krishnapuram in Kuttanad and to know about the village, there's 'The Kuttanadan blog.'
The blog written by Sudhi, (played by Sanju Sivaram) details his perceptions and the incidents revolving around Hari, aka Hariettan (played by Mammootty). He has a gang of friends and all of them admire Hariettan for his charming persona. Meanwhile, Hariettan is an NRI and is coming back home and the whole village is awaiting his arrival.
Hariettan comes on a BMW, sets up a free wifi network for the youngsters of the locality and what not, he even gives tips to woo girls. Not to miss, Hari is even adored by the ladies in town. While one is a village belle Hema (Anu Sitara), the other is charming beauty Sreejaya (Raai Laxmi) and so is SI Neena Kurup (Shamna Kasim).
However, Hari is most misunderstood by other people in the village. Wherever Hari goes, trouble follows. Even his father (Nedumudi Venu) tells Hari, “There is not a single soul that has a good opinion about you.” But, Hari is least bothered about such unfavorable opinion and he does what he wants to do. In spite of all, Hari decides to leave Kuttanad and rest we leave to you to know.
Talk about performances, there is a long star cast. Everyone does justice to their characters. We have seen Mammootty as the playful middle-aged man and he does one in this too. It was good to see Shamna Kasim in an impressive role in Malayalam after a long time. Lalu Alex too grabs attention.
The songs by Sreenath Shivashankaran brings in the right flavour of a village along with Pradeep Nair's cinematography.
The comedies are not very great but the film offers ample fun in between. Seemed like director Sethu shifted his focus from giving much depth to characterization and rather presents fan-filled moments. There is drama too and the movie has all elements for a festive family entertainer.
One may fail to find something great with the movie. But 'Oru Kuttanadan Blog' is a simple story filled with nostalgia and is a light-hearted watchable comedy drama.
