Nirbhaya: A visual story of the oppressed

Almost 8 years ago, a 23-year old young girl, returning home with a male friend, after watching a movie was brutally gang raped in a private bus by 6 men. The grievously injured girl dies from her injuries and the unfortunate victim of this gruesome act became known as ‘Nirbhaya’ which denotes ‘fearless’.

Her life and death today symbolizes the struggle of every hapless women to end rape and gravely illustrates the age old practice of blaming the victim than the perpetrator. In wake of the pretext, a musical video titled ‘Nirbhaya’ has been released online.

While the concept and direction has been helmed by Sidhin, the soulful number composed by Stephen Devassy has been sung by Shweta Mohan. The highlight of the video is the expression of emotions through dance which is choreographed by Fawas Ameer, who himself has enacted a role as well.

The DOP is Binnendra Menon and is edited by A Sreekar Prasad.

By the end of the over 5-minutes long video, we get to see how the culprits are brought to justice throwing light that unless given justice we cannot dream of a society where our daughters can walk out fearlessly.

The video is produced by Sai Productions in association with Jagathy Sreekumar Entertainments.
