Meet new talent on the block: Ayraan Arjun, the 'Alare' sensation

His rendering of ‘Alare Nee Ennile’ wowed the music lovers of Kerala. Easily, Ayraan Arjun is one of the most promising singers we have today. He is back with yet another beautiful melody ‘Pon Malare,’ written by Sam Mathew AD, composed by Sreecharan Pakkala in Major, based on Major Sandip Unnikrishnan’s life. More from Ayraan Arjun.

The success of Pon Malare

I was hopeful that this song in Major, will be well received. More so as we all have an emotional connection with Major Sandip Unnikrishnan. Also, the mood of the song is beautiful. Am quite thrilled by the positive reactions. It’s quite nice to have received so many views during such a short time.

Songs

My first movie song was this melancholic melody ‘Tuhi Rani’ in Kakshi Amminipillai. The two songs that came later, be it Alare or Pon Malare are all romantic melodies. Each of the three songs gave me a different experience. Am lucky to have received such fine songs during the early stages of my career.

Playback singing

I never thought of making singing my full-time career. I recall a childhood filled with Muhammad Rafi songs, as my father was a huge fan. I loved to sing from a very young age. After my studies, I joined an IT Company. But after a while, I started losing interest in my work. My mind was drifting towards music, and I told my father that I wanted to pursue a career in music. He supported my decision. That gave me the courage to quit my job and pursue music. I tried looking for opportunities in Kochi and very soon landed my first singing gig in Kakshi Amminipillai.

As Alare makes waves.

It was after listening to ‘Tuhi Rani’ that music director Kailas Menon called me for ‘Alare.’ That came like a New Year gift in 2020. Though he had recorded that song for some other film, he couldn’t use the song for some unforeseen reason. He had told me that he will use the song for another film and make me sing it. But since I wasn’t really sure it will happen; I kept the exciting news to myself. Kailas Menon kept his word. It was Sabareesh who wrote the lyrics for the second time. Nithya Mammen was my co-singer. Honestly, I never thought the song will be so popular.

Future plans

I have finished another song for a Malayalam film. Am awaiting 6 of my Telugu songs to be released. Kalyan Ramnath is the music director. I feel fortunate to have sung my first Telugu song with Minmini. I have also sung a song with Sithara Krishnakumar. Others are under discussion.
