'Neelavelicham', directed by Aashiq Abu, is set to release in theatres on April 20. The film, which is an official remake of the 1964 Malayalam classic 'Bhargavi Nilayam', is based on Vaikom Muhammed Basheer's short story.

However, the makers of 'Neelavelicham' have been slapped with a legal notice for allegedly using the songs composed by legendary composer M S Baburaj in 'Bhargavi Nilayam', without prior permission.

The legal notice was issued to Aashiq Abu and music director Bijibal by Baburaj's daughter. In the complaint, she also stated that the new version has destroyed the 'uniqueness' of the original.

There are also reports that Baburaj's family has demanded the makers to remove the songs from all mediums and platforms. P Bhaskaran had penned the original songs.

The makers have thus far released three songs, including 'Ekanthathayude Mahatheeram', 'Anuraga Madhuchashakam' and 'Thamasamenthe Varuvan'. All the songs were well received by the audience.

The film features Tovino Thomas, Roshan Mathew and Rima Kallingal in the lead. Shine Tom Chacko will also play a prominent role in the film.
