Refrigerators have become an inevitable item in most households. Many find it convenient to cook in big batches and store in the fridge for up to a week in order to save time and fuel. However, refrigerators could be the storehouse of bacteria too. Here are some hacks to follow while storing food in the fridge:

1. Always set the temperature inside the fridge below forty-degree Fahrenheit. The temperature inside the freezer should be below zero-degree Fahrenheit. Your fridge could become the breeding ground for bacteria if the temperature inside it is between forty degree Fahrenheit and one hundred and forty degree Fahrenheit.

2. Eggs, fruits and vegetables should be washed before storing in the fridge as the dust particles or bacteria from it could spread inside the fridge. Do not forget to store cooked food in closed containers as it could prevent bacterial infection to a certain extent.

3. It is not a great idea storing fruits that are half cut, in refrigerators. However, in case you need to store fruits that are half used, there are safer methods to do that. For instance, you could store half of lemon in a clean polythene bag. The lemon would still be juice even if you store like this for a few days. Meanwhile, you could wrap the leftover watermelon using a plastic cover. Papaya pieces could be wrapped in a sheet of paper before keeping it in fridge. If you have removed the skin or fruits, then store them in a container and cover its mouth using a plastic sheet. Leftover apples could be stored in air tight containers after sprinkling some apple cider vinegar. You could also sprinkle some lemon juice or sugar to keep the apples fresh.

4. Clean the meat and fish and store in separate containers. Divide them in smaller batches that is required for each day. It would be easier to de freeze meat and fish if you store them like this.

5. Do not keep meat and fish in the freezer for more than a week.

6. It is not a healthy habit to reheat the food multiple times. The food that would be consumed soon could be stored in the fridge while the dishes that are required for later could be stored in the freezer. The food that is reheated should not be refrigerated again. Try to finish them on the same day itself.
