Special karkidaka kozhi

The traditional cuisine of Kerala has many dishes that help in improving the immunity power of the body. The karkidaka kozhi or the special chicken preparation enjoyed during the Malayalam month of Karkidakam is loaded with nutrients. Here is how you could prepare the karkidaka kozhi.

1 ½ kg chicken

2 tbsp fenugreek seeds

6 tbsp pepper corns

6 tbsp coriander seeds

2 tbsp cumin seeds

½ tsp turmeric powder

Rock salt as required

200 gms shallots

3 tbsp coconut oil

Curry leaves


Soak the fenugreek seeds for 2 hours

Grind the coriander seeds, pepper corns and cumin into fine powder

Marinate the cleaned chicken with this spice mix

Cook the marinated chicken with some salt and turmeric powder on low flame with the lid on; do not add water

Heat coconut oil and sauté the shallots

Add this tempering into the chicken

Cook for another 5-8 minutes

When the chicken is nicely cooked and the water is reduced, add the curry leaves

Give everything a good mix and take it off the flame.
