Kollam: A college lecturer from TKM College of Engineering in Kollam drowned at Papanasam beach in Varkala on Tuesday.

Ponparakkal  Mohammed Shanir (42) hailing from Karuvampoyil, Koduvally in Kozhikoe was washed away by strong currents at the Papanasam beach. The accident happened at 6.30 pm while he was swimming with his friends. Though he was rescued and rushed to the Taluk hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. 

Shanir was a lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at TKM Engineering College.
