Sruthy Sithara becomes first Indian to win Miss Trans Global title

Kottayam: Keralite trans woman Sruthy Sithara has won the Miss Trans Global pageant. A native of Vaikom Sruthy is on cloud nine as she is the first Indian to win the crown of Miss Trans Global. Meanwhile, the first two runners up hail from the Philippines and Canada respectively. The pageant was conducted online in order to inspire the transgender community and instil confidence in them. Last year, Mehla Habijan from the Philippines had won the title.

Introducing herself at the competition Sruthy said that she was a model by profession and an actress by passion. Each of the contestants had to choose a hashtag as part of the competition and Shruthy chose the hashtag transphobia. It is the fear of the transgender community and Shruthy was able to convey the theme perfectly well. Sruthy exposed society's attitude towards transgenders and the violence unleashed against them through her message.

Sruthy finds modelling as a path towards acting, which she dreams about so passionately. It was celebrity make-up artist Ranju Ranjimar who guided Sruthy into the field of modelling. Sruthy acquired the confidence of proving her mettle in modelling after she won the Queen of Dhwayah title in 2018.

Sruthy has begun a social media campaign called Kaleidoscope to discuss the problems faced by the transgender community and to voice their concerns and demands. Sruthy is now settled in Kochi.
