Prajith is an architect who gives shape to others’ dream abodes. When he decided to build a house of his own at Malapparambu in Kozhikode, Kerala, he wanted it to be a cost effective one, yet without compromising on facilities. The house is now grabbing attention for its charming exteriors in contemporary style.
The elevation has flat roof and the interiors are designed in such a way to give prime importance to excellent cross ventilation and abundant supply of natural light. Glass windows line the upper storey walls. MS louvers are installed to ensure cross ventilation.
There is a car porch, living and dining spaces, kitchen and four bedrooms in this house which has an area of 1800 sq ft. The spaces in the interiors are interconnected and this enhances cross ventilation and also makes it look vast and spacious. The unique design of the stairway is an eye-catching feature here. The steps are in steel and the handrails are made with MS grille and mesh.

All the four bedrooms are bath attached with in – built wardrobe facilities. The grilles and louvers on the head boards welcome lots of pleasant sunshine into the rooms.

The kitchen is furnished in MDF and laminate finish. PU paint adorns the walls here in wooden and white themes. Nano white is paved on the counter top.

The construction of the house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 37 lakh.
These are the factors which kept a check on the expenses:

» Spaces are meticulously utilized. Unnecessary interior walls were avoided to make the spaces vast.
» The electric points were installed on previously decided positions.
» Lights were directly installed without the false ceiling.
» The use of wood was limited. Putty finish is done only in the main areas.
» Vitrified tiles, which cost Rs 60 per square feet, are paved on the floor.
» Compressed wooden doors are used in the unimportant areas. These doors cost just Rs 2000 per piece.
