Actor Jayasurya is basking in the glory of his maiden state award for the best actor. He and his family are thrilled to adorn their brand new flat with the classic memento. Jayasurya says that the honour is extra special as it is the first award that he has won after moving into his new flat near Marine Drive in Kochi. The versatile actor proudly shows around his classy luxurious flat.

“I have lived in the house at Panampilly Nagar for the last 13 years. I believe that the house has been extremely lucky for me. I did the most notable roles in my career while I was living in that house. But when I became busier with filming and promotions, I decided to buy a flat as well. Saritha too is busy with her boutique. So it was very difficult to maintain the house amid our busy schedules. Flat is easier to maintain and safer too. Our search for a perfect flat ended at this one near the Marine Drive. Though we moved into this flat, we go and stay at our house, at least once a week,” says Jayasurya.

Painted by nature

One of the most amazing features of this flat is that the incredibly beautiful views of the Kochi Lake could be enjoyed from there. Manoj Kumar of Illusions Architectural Group in Kochi, who designed the family’s house at Panampilly Nagar and Saritha’s boutique, has designed the interiors of this flat. Jayasurya insisted that the family shouldn’t feel suffocated when they move into the flat from the vast and spacious house. The interiors are designed in the open style. So it gives the exact feeling of living in a vast and spacious house. The 3 BHK flat has an area of 3500 sq ft. All rooms in the flat open to the beautiful views of the lake. Saritha who is a designer herself had contributed a lot while designing this elegant flat.

“I prefer minimal designs, so does Jayan. So the interiors aren’t over-crowded with too many decor or furniture. White and grey shades adorn the spaces mostly. We have tried to bring in a ‘Buddha’ theme and vibe to the interiors. This plays a major role in filling the interiors with incredible positive energy. The living and the dining areas are in the open style. The hanging lamps over the dining table were chosen after roaming around in so many stores,” notes Saritha, the actor’s wife.

There is a statue of Lord Buddha in meditation in the living area with a small water fountain around it. Similarly, a painting of Buddha adorns the wall at end of the long corridor in the flat. There are small paintings in the balcony as well. Jayasurya says he feels extremely relaxed as he looks at these, when he is back after a day of busy work.

Saritha is someone who enjoys cooking very much. So she wanted everything in the kitchen to be within hand's reach. Jayasurya too loves to prepare special dishes for his family when he is not shooting and is at home. The small breakfast counter in the kitchen is a favorite with the family.

All the three bedrooms have balconies with sliding glass doors. Jayasurya’s son Adwait and daughter Veda had many demands about their rooms. Adwait wanted a bunk bed while Veda wanted her room to be designed in pink theme.

Favorite corner

“The balconies are our favorite corners in the flat. Whenever I am home, my day begins and ends by enjoying some tranquil moments at the balcony. The various shades of nature, in all its glory, could be enjoyed from here. The majestic views of the container terminal, the crowds at the Marine Drive, Vypin Bridge, Bolgatty Palace, the small boats and big ships are some of the mesmerizing sights from the balcony. We pass through an array of moods and emotions when we are here. Anyways, all of us and this flat too are eagerly waiting for the day when the state awards would be distributed,” concludes Jayasurya.
