From thatched house to two storied spacious house; here is the journey of Binu Adimali

Binu Adimali has been entertaining the mini screen audience with his excellent comic timing and unique Idukki slang. The mimicry artist, who has found his way into the movies, was last seen in Mammootty starrer Shylock. Binu opens up about his career and also shows around his brand new house.

Thatched house

Binu hails from Adimali in Idukki district. He has 4 siblings. His parents who were farmers had owned a small piece of farm land. Binu says though they didn’t starve, the family didn’t really have the financial capacity to build a house, large or comfortable enough to accommodate all of them. Theirs was a thatched house that had un plastered walls. However, the family lived happily with whatever they had.

Binu says his siblings too have great flair for art. They took part in mimicry and skit competitions during the school days. Binu, who decided not to purse education after pre degree, started a mimicry troupe called Adimali Sagara along with few of his friends. “We had programs only during the season. So I used to go for painting jobs to earn a living. Offers from television shows have in fact given me the break in my career. I have stopping doing painting works since then,” says Binu.

Cinema

It was actor – producer Maniyanpilla Raju who offered Binu a role in the movies, after watching the latter’s performance in the mini screen. Binu’s character in his debut movie Thalsamayam Oru penkutty got noticed. Now, Binu has acted in more than 50 movies including Ithihasa, Paavada, Pathemari, King Liar, Georgettan’s Pooram and Carbon.

Dream home

Binu moved to Aluva nine years ago when he began getting busy with television programs. He had lived for years in rented houses. Using his savings, he had purchased 5 cents of land and began building a house here last year. “We had planned to conduct the house warming ceremony this month. But then the corona virus made entry as the villain. We are waiting for everything to settle down to plan the celebrations,” says Binu.

“I am a just an ordinary artist. I cannot build a house availing huge amount of money as loan. I am relieved that I could build our dream home that perfectly fits my budget. It is a two storied house with four bedrooms. Though it stands on a small plot, we have tried to make the interiors as spacious as possible,” notes Binu.

Family

Dhanya is Binu’s wife. They have three kids; Athmik who studies in plus one, Meenakshi a class six student and the youngest one Ambal who is just two years old.
