You build a house and suppose it becomes more beautiful than what you have imagined. Can there be anything more delightful to you than this? No. Renju and his wife Ashwathi, residents of Kadakkavur, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala had a similar experience after they were invited to a friend's house warming ceremony. They were so impressed by the design of their host's new house that they decided there itself to hire the same designer if they ever decided to build a house. That's how Renju roped in SDC Architects to construct their own house in Kadakkavur.
Planned in contemporary style, the eye-catching compound door, natural stone cladding on the walls and the court yard adjacent to the balcony - all lend an unmatched beauty to the elevation of the brilliantly designed house. While the glass and CNC work adds elegance to the architecture, they also fulfil the purpose of letting as much breeze and light as possible into the interiors.
As per the client's request, open interiors, spacious common areas and broad designs have been executed throughout. Guest as well as family living area and dining space have all been done based on elaborate design pattern.
The courtyard that has been given double height space is the focal point of the interiors. Teak wood has been used for panelling and ceiling. The inside of the house is an epitome of beauty in white. While the staircase is constructed exactly opposite to the dining area, the space below is utilized to install the work counter. Hanging lights and LED spot lights highlight the ambience of the interiors.
There is only one bed room upstairs. A spacious balcony is an attraction here. The construction is in such a way that one gets an uninterrupted view of every little space in the house.
The three bed rooms on the ground floor are a study in minimalism - simple but elegant. However, every room has built-in wardrobes and side tables.
A large modular kitchen with woodwork is yet another highlight of the house. Marine plywood is used for cupboards. The counter top is made of black granite. Glass shutters add to the charm of the kitchen. The whole area is designed to allow as much storage as possible.
The special feature of the house is that the spaces within and outside have been exquisitely designed to suit the practical was well as aesthetic needs of the family.
