Shivaramakrishnan’s brand new house that stands on a mere 3 cents plot in Sreekaryam in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is quite special in many ways. The exteriors feature no excess designs to make the house attractive. The simple box shapes that are highlighted with cream and white texture paints are classy. The structure is built by leaving the mandatory setback around the house.
The interiors, meanwhile, mesmerize with incredible features and modern facilities. The splendid house, designed in 1700 sq ft, has a car porch, sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen with an adjacent work area, three bedrooms, an upper hall and a balcony. A pillar in the car porch blends well with the compound wall which helps save space. A rolling gate, that doesn’t take up much space, has been installed here.
A fabulous art work of peacock feather done in plywood and CNC in the living area instantly grabs one's attention. The TV unit highlighted with metallic texture paint acts as a partition as well.
White vitrified tiles are paved on the floor in the common areas. Meanwhile, tiles in wooden finish are used on the steps on the stairway. The gypsum false ceiling enhanced with LED light fittings plays a pivotal role in making the interiors look chic and classy. The handrails of the stairway are done in rosewood.
The stair area is designed in double height which makes the interiors look vast and spacious. The skylight brings lots of pleasant sunshine into the interiors.
The dining table is arranged just beside the stairway. The crockery shelf, meanwhile, is built beneath the stairway and is a fine example of intelligent space management. The wash area beautified with natural stone claddings and attractive lighting is just opposite to this.
There are two bedrooms in the ground floor and one bedroom in the upper storey. The bedrooms don unique colour themes and fancy false ceilings. The bath-attached bedrooms have in-built wardrobes for storage and separate dressing spaces as well.
The kitchen cabinets are built using marine plywood with auto paint finish. Black granite is paved on the counter top. Meanwhile, white tiles are pasted on the back splash adding the perfect contrast.
The interiors are designed in the semi-open style to make the spaces look vaster. The family says that their guests often forget that this house has been built on a 3 cents plot. The construction of this house, including the structure and the furnishing, was completed on a reasonable budget of Rs 29 lakh. This spectacular abode shows that with perfect planning and creative ideas one could easily build his or her dream home on even small plots.
