Actor VK Baiju has been a familiar face for the mini screen audience. He has played some memorable roles in several popular serials. He has also shined in a few movies as well. The actor talks about his favourite memories, which are related to his house.

Memory house

Baiju hails from Kallara, a beautiful countryside in Thiruvananthapuram district. This place boasts of producing many talented artists in various fields. Baiju grew up with his parents and two sisters in a small house with a traditional mud-tiled roof. His father had owned a cashew factory which was later closed down. Now, his parents are no more. However, the sweet memories of his childhood home are still fresh in his mind.

“I had built a house close to my ancestral home in Kallara, 14 years ago. But I could only stay in that house for four years. I moved to the city as part of my job. Now, we live in a rented house in the city. My elder sister still stays at our native place. We visit the village on special occasions. In 2005, I bought a flat at Kudappanakunnu. I go and stay there whenever I feel the need for a break from the city life,” says Baiju.

Acting

He had been part of many amateur plays. It was Baiju’s friendship with noted director KK Rajeev that opened the door to acting. Later, his friend circle grew bigger. Baiju’s brother-in-law owned a production house which led him into the mini screen. “I am probably one of the actors who did the most number of character roles. The role called Kothumban in the serial Orma became a turning point in my career. Later, I became active in the movies through Sathyan Anthikad films,” says the actor.

Family

Baiju’s wife Lathika is a home maker. Their only daughter Kavya works in the airline industry. The family has been staying in their flat during the pandemic times. Now, the filming of TV serials has resumed. Baiju, meanwhile, is thrilled that he dons a significant role in the serial Chakoyum Meriyum aired on Mazhavil Manorama.
