Shaji and Subina’s brand new house at Changanassery near Kottayam, Kerala is a grand structure that celebrates the elegant fusion style. The couple had clear ideas about their dream home even before the construction began. They weren’t interested in the regular flat-roofed, box style elevation. Meanwhile, they didn’t want the sloped roof to don a traditional look either. That is how the elevation got its beautiful fusion of designs that instantly grabs attention.
The roofing clearly acts as a notable design element here. Amazing stone claddings, wooden tile claddings and grill works are the highlights of the exteriors. Designed in 3200 sqft, this fabulous abode has a car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, courtyard, kitchen with a work area and five bedrooms. The interiors are designed in the open style. However, the semi partitions ensure enough privacy to the spaces as well.
From the sit out, one could enter the foyer which leads to the interiors. The splendid view of the courtyard could be enjoyed from the foyer. The classic combination of off white and wood have been used for furnishing in this house. The full length window in the formal living area lets lots of fresh air and natural sun light into the house.
Decorative features like paneling, partitions and wall papers have been sparingly used to highlight only the key areas. Meanwhile, the V board and teak wood furnishing is grand and elegant. There is an opening in the dining area which opens to the patio.
The stairway features the spectacular combination of glass and wood. Besides a living area, the upper storey has three bedrooms and a balcony as well.
Five bedrooms have been arranged in both the floors in this house. The bath attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobes and separate dressing spaces as well. Interestingly, each bedroom has been designed as per the likes and interests of the family members. The prayer room in the ground floor is specially built to ensure privacy and a pleasant ambience as well.
The quaint pantry counter made in V board is what separates the dining area and the kitchen. The kitchen is furnished in white and wooden combination. Meanwhile, the counter top has been paved with granite. A crockery unit too has been arranged as part of the pantry unit. Besides the show kitchen, there is an adjacent work area as well to make the kitchen functional and efficient.
