An epitome of luxury architectural style in Kerala's green haven

An epitome of luxury architectural style in Kerala's green haven
A swimming pool is yet another highlight in this fabulous mansion that spreads over 7800 sqft.

Subair Kolakkadan, a native of Kozhikode and a builder based here, shares his experiences of building his own house.

“I have been working in the construction industry for the last 35 years. I run a construction firm called Kolakkadan Builders in Kozhikode. I have been focusing on constructing commercial buildings for the last few years. My brand new house happened after I had decided to shift my focus back to residential projects. The trends and the interests of the people from when I used to do residential projects have drastically changed. So, I decided to get updated with the new methods by trying them in my own house. I stay at this house with my wife and three kids. My daughter Fida is an architect. She too has contributed a lot in the designing and building of our dream dwelling. Meanwhile, the house was designed by noted architect Brijesh Kothoor,” says Subair.

The car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with work area, two bedrooms and a servant’s room are in the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper storey has three bedrooms, a recreation room and a home theatre. The area below the truss roof has been separated as a utility space and gym area. Moreover, a swimming pool too has been arranged in this fabulous mansion that spreads over 7800 sqft.

The formal living area has glass walls on three sides. From here one could enjoy the spectacular views of the beautiful garden and the swimming pool. A sliding glass door in the formal living area opens to the pool area. The cool breeze from the swimming pool would enter the house if this door is opened.

The majestic spiral stairway is the highlight of the interiors. The stairway has toughened glass as hand railings on the one side and painted hylam sheet on the other. Indoor plants beneath the staircase add a hint of pleasant greenery here. The exquisite Italian marble that has been used for flooring was purchased by Subair directly from Rajasthan.

All the bedrooms boast of luxurious features and facilities. The bath-attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobes and separate dressing spaces. The headboards, meanwhile, are highlighted with unique colour claddings and attractive wall papers.
The open kitchen is furnished with cabinets done in metal and wood finish. Meanwhile, the counter top has been paved with quartz. A quaint breakfast counter too has been arranged as part of the kitchen. A spectacular aquarium that is designed aesthetically is what adorns the entrance of the kitchen.

Library, living space and a balcony have been arranged in the upper floor. An amazing view of the swimming pool could be enjoyed from the balcony.

“I insisted that the house should look like a regular abode from the outside. However, the interiors have been furnished regally and the spaces boast of luxurious amenities,” says Subair.

Subair says he had overseen the construction of his house to learn more about the latest trends in construction. The family celebrated the housewarming ritual in September this year and moved into their dream abode. Meanwhile, Subair is thrilled that he could now show his own house as a model to his clients. He is currently busy discussing two new housing projects.
