Baiju, a contractor based in Manakala in Adoor, is proud that he could build his dream abode by himself. His close friends and architects Anil and Unnikrishnan of the Better Design Studio in Adoor had drawn the plan and designed the interiors of this beautiful house.
The elevation exudes a contemporary vibe with its flat box style. The enchanting colour combination of white and rose is truly eye catching. The structure is built by leaving enough space in the front. This projects the fabulous beauty of the exteriors in all its glory. The front yard, meanwhile, has been paved with natural stones and grass in alternate layers. A stream flows near the house. The front yard is raised by depositing soil to prevent flooding situation during the monsoon. So, the front yard is few feet higher than the backyard. However, this difference in height cannot be felt inside the house.
There is a car porch, sit-out, living and dining areas, pooja space, patio, courtyard, kitchen with work area and two bedrooms in the ground floor. Meanwhile, an upper living area, one bedroom, balcony and an open terrace have been arranged in the upper storey of the house which has an area of 2250 sq ft. The interiors have been designed to ensure excellent air circulation and natural light.
The living – dining and the kitchen area are designed in the semi open style. Most of the furniture pieces were built on site. Meanwhile, vitrified tiles have been paved on the floor in this house.
The open kitchen easily allows communication with the dining area. The cabinets are done in marine plywood. The counter top, meanwhile, has been paved with granite. A quaint breakfast counter and an adjacent work area too are part of the kitchen.
The bedrooms are simple yet elegant. The bath attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobe spaces for storage.
The patio space opposite the dining area is the soul of the house where the family gathers in the evenings. Hurudees blocks enhanced with interesting jali works have been used here to make this space cool and comfortable.
The courtyard is decorated with beautiful indoor plants that add a pleasant hint of greenery inside the house. The patio, courtyard and the air vents fill the house with cool breeze and natural sunshine, thereby granting a fabulous ambience to the spaces. The hand railings of the stairway are made using GI tubes. The family, meanwhile, is busy making a garden in the open terrace. They have already arranged the plants and creepers here to make it into a haven of greenery. Baiju and his family are joyous that they got the house of their dreams.
