Shimju David wanted his new home at Kuriachira in Thrissur, Kerala, to look and feel different from the regular homes that feature ordinary designs. The architect has done justice to this demand by designing each and every corner of this splendid house uniquely.
The L-shaped foldable gate is an attractive feature. The aesthetically designed landscape, meanwhile, is simple yet elegant. The elevation is designed in ‘H’ shape which is quite unique for a house. The car porch, sit out and the formal and family living areas are on the left section of the house while the master bedroom, guest bedroom, kitchen and work area are on the right side. Interestingly, the dining area in the ground floor and the upper living area connect these blocks.
The porch, sit-out and both the living areas are arranged in different slab height. Glasses are fixed in L-shape on the left side of each level. This feature allows the family members to enjoy the stunning beauty of the dawn, twilight and the silent night from inside the house. These glasses are arranged to receive the spectacular sunshine that falls from the west side.
A beautiful water body which is built a foot below the floor level is the highlight of the interiors. The fabulous view of this space could be enjoyed from every corner of the house. This enchanting space has become the most desired spot in the house where the family members love to gather.
The sliding glass door in the dining area opens to the patio. Interestingly, one could get to the patio only from inside the house.
The vertical pergola and the adjacent steel structured stairway are truly eye catching.
The bedrooms are furnished elegantly in unique themes. Paintings done by local artists adorn the walls here. The attached bathrooms are separated into dry and wet areas. Besides, the bedrooms have in – built wardrobes for storage and separate dressing spaces.
An office space has been arranged in the upper storey. A stairway from outside too connects to the office area.
The U-shaped kitchen, the quaint breakfast counter and the custom made 8 seater dining table not only stand out for its impressive design features but are extremely efficient too.
The interiors are decorated with lots of indoor plants. These plants are not just wonderful to look at but grant a soothing ambience to the interiors. The excellent cross ventilation and natural lighting play a vital role in filling the interiors with positive vibes.
