Joseph Francis’ brand new house at Karippassery in Angamaly, Kerala, is a grand colonial style mansion that stands out from the many contemporary houses in the vicinity. The serene charm of the white hue is what draws instant attention. Meanwhile, the iconic blend of flat and sloped roof makes it the perfect colonial style abode.
Only the trees where the structure stands were cut down in the plot. Lots of shading trees forms a spectacular canopy of greenery around the house. These trees are home to lots of birds and squirrels too. Meanwhile, the front yard is paved with natural stones and grass in alternate layers.
The interiors are designed in the semi open style. The formal living area is arranged just beside the entrance door, ensuring enough privacy. This area is designed in a way that the rest of the house isn’t visible from here. The walls don lighter shades of hues that are pleasant to the eyes. This makes the spaces look chic and clean. Meanwhile, vitrified tiles have been paved on the floor. The custom made furniture amazingly matches the unique theme of the house.
From the formal living area one could enter the spacious hall that has a double height ceiling. This makes communication easier between both the floors. The family living and the dining areas are arranged as part of this hall. The patterned skylight on the ceiling here brings natural sunshine into the house. Moreover, the sun rays create breath taking patterns of chiaroscuro on the adjacent walls.
There is a designer semi partition in the center of the hall. While the TV unit is arranged on one side of it, the other side has been turned into an elegant prayer area.
The stylish stairway is the highlight of the interiors. The hand railings feature the classic combination of wood and toughened glass. A reading space has been arranged in the mezzanine style on the first landing of the stairway. Lots of windows with in – built sitting spaces make this area the perfect place of bliss where you could enjoy the company of some great books.
The kitchen too is designed in the open style. Interestingly, the main kitchen and the work area are arranged as a single block. The cabinets here are done in multi wood finish. The countertop, meanwhile, has been paved with granite.
Two bedrooms each are there in both the floors. The minimally furnished bedrooms, meanwhile, have all the required amenities. There are attached bathrooms and in – built wardrobes in all the rooms.
