lavish mansion in Malappuram
Traditional mud tiles are paved on the truss roof, adding oodles of charm to the elevation.

Aabid, a teacher and his family is proud to show around his brand new house at Chelari in Malappuram district in Kerala. Noted architect Vajid Rahman, who is known for designing countless environment-friendly houses across the state, deserves credit for designing such a stunning abode. The family desired a beautiful and comfortable house with vast spaces that receive an ample amount of natural sunshine and cool breeze. Moreover, they wished to have all these amenities and features without burning a hole in their pocket.

The roof isn’t concreted; instead, truss roof has been installed as a single unit. Traditional mud tiles are paved on the truss roof, adding oodles of charm to the elevation. Meanwhile, a layer of designer tiles too have been paved beneath this. Besides saving a significant amount of money, this feature helps in making the interiors look and feel vaster. The upper storey is built in the mezzanine style which is extremely chic and functional.

A sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen, courtyard, patio, three bedrooms and upper study space are arranged in this elegant house built in 2050 sqft.

The entrance door opens to the spacious hall. Here, the living area is arranged close to the stair area that has a double-height ceiling. Meanwhile, the dining table is in the centre of this hall. The courtyard and the patio are easily accessible from here. Glass is paved on GI ceiling to separate the sitting space in the patio that is closer to compound wall in the backside of the house.

Limiting the use of natural timber has helped in keeping a check on the expenses. The windows are done in the elegant combination of steel and aluminum. Meanwhile, stainless steel hand railings of the stairway are indeed attractive. Rub wood pieces are attached on it as design highlighters. The first landing of the stairway has been turned into a cozy study space. The in – built sitting space here is a smart addition.

Furnished in aluminum fabrication, the kitchen is modern and functional. Built as a single unit, a pantry counter is what connects the kitchen with the dining area.

There are two bedrooms in the ground floor and one in the upper floor. The cots that have concealed storage spaces are done in rub wood. The bath attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobes too.

The construction of the fabulous abode, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a reasonable budget of Rs 35 lakh. It indeed is an impressive feat that such an amazing house, with all the modern amenities, could be completed on a pocket friendly budget, that too during the time when the construction costs are skyrocketing.

Among the various factors that helped in keeping a tab on the budget, arranging the interiors in an open plan played a vital role. Unnecessary walls that separate spaces could thus be avoided. The roof that has been built as a single unit didn’t require lintels or additional walls. The walls, meanwhile, are built using locally sourced laterite stones. The outer walls aren’t concreted but only have a coat of clear emulsion. Car porch isn’t constructed as part of the structure. Meanwhile, the front yard has been paved with baby mettle. Aluminum fabrication in the kitchen looks classy and had saved money while furnishing. Only the entrance door is made in natural timber. Relatively cheaper UPVC has been used for the rest of the doors in the house.
