There once stood an old tiled typical Kerala house tucked in a 14-cent plot in the Vyttila area of Ernakulam district in Kerala. Over the period, the owner decided to demolish it and wanted a modern house with a 'traditional outlook' in its place. And the end result was marvellously beautiful.

To bring in the suave pitched roof design, the hallmark of Kerala architecture, on the usual flat ceiling of the house, clay tiles are arranged on sloping GI truss work atop the concreted flat roof. This facilitates a room for an attic region that caters to a multi-utility space. The clay tiles of the old house that was demolished were washed and reused to lend a rustic look to the new house seeped in the traditional exterior. Apart from the clay tiles, wooden frames of doors, windows of the old house were replanted into the new structure.

The living room, dining and stairway are part of the open hall. The floors are covered by vitrified tiles while the furniture and panelling are done with a combination of veneer-cum-plywood.

The staircase has been intelligently designed to eliminate the maximum amount of dead space. At the same time, it lifts the aesthetic appeal of the area through the attractive use of wood and toughened glass in the railing panel. A wash area is tucked on one side of the stairway.

The antique attire of the mansion does not reflect in the kitchen. The interiors spearhead the richness of contemporary world plywood-cum-laminated kitchen cabinets and granite countertop. Situated near the kitchen is a work area.
