Architect couple Rahul and Shanti, who have designed many beautiful abodes around the state are elated to share their experiences of designing and building their own dream dwelling. Their residence cum office is near KK Road at Kalathipady in Kottayam district, Kerala. The plot that lied in multiple levels were levelled before building the structure. A separate stairway outside the house leads to the cosy yet classy office space.
Interestingly, this smartly designed house has the facilities of a three-storey building. Truss roof that has been paved with stylish Mangalore tiles is installed above the flat roof. This grants a tropical charm to the structure. Moreover, a swimming pool and a party space has been arranged in the attic space between the roofs.
Designed in 4850 sqft, this splendid abode has a car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with a work area, four bedrooms, upper hall, office space, balcony and multi-utility area.
The central area, designed in the open style is the highlight of the interiors. The family living area, dining space, kitchen, stairway and prayer area are all arranged in this spacious hall. This area, which is around 650 sqft, is the soul of the house which is lively and elegant.
The unique furnishing is what grabs attention as soon as one enters the house. As Rahul and Shanti are architects, they have experimented with colour palettes, textures and stylish designs to grant a mesmerizing look to the house. The interiors generally don the classy rustic finish. Meanwhile, a blend of flamed granite and leather finished kota stones are used for flooring. While the grand opulence of teak wood furnishing is impressive, inexpensive timber too has been used to keep the expenses at bay. The furniture pieces in their office space are truly incredible. One would be surprised to know that old railway sleepers have been creatively used here.
The stairway in this house has been designed as a smart addition by merging it with multi-utility spaces. There is a TV room close to the stairway. Interestingly, this room could be easily transformed into a bedroom, if required, in the future.
The stairway leads to an upper hall where a wall is lined with glass doors. A study area and a workspace too have been arranged on the other side of the stair landing.
There is only one bedroom on the ground floor. Meanwhile, three bedrooms are on the upper floor. The master bedroom, on the upper floor, opens to the balcony from where the beautiful views of the landscape could be enjoyed. Besides, bay windows have been built in the bedrooms to make them cosier. The spacious bedrooms boast eye-catching furnishing and modern facilities.
The couple has built their dream abode as a perfect model that they could show to their clients.
