The flat box-style elevation is perfect for a house that stands in a smaller plot.

Young couple Midhun and Binisha’s brand new house in Kanjirampara, Thiruvananthapuram is a contemporary abode that suits the modern lifestyle of the family.

The structure stands in a 5 cents rectangular plot. Interestingly, the amenities in the interiors have been given priority instead of adding glamour to the elevation. The flat box-style elevation is perfect for a house that stands in a smaller plot. A terracotta jali box design is the highlight of the elevation.

The interiors are designed in the open style to make the spaces look and feel spacious. Currently, the house is single stories. However, an additional floor could be built, if required, in the future. The house isn’t filled with furnishing items or décor so the couple would get more open spaces.

Designed in 1100 sqft, this beautiful house has a long hall where the living area, dining space and kitchen have been arranged. Besides, there are two bedrooms with attached bathrooms.

The living area has a double-height ceiling. The skylight and the glass window on the side bring in oodles of natural sunshine. The courtyard is decorated mainly with an indoor plant called terminalia that adds a hint of refreshing greenery. The terracotta jali wall is close to this courtyard illuminating it with natural sunshine.

There is no separate dining table; instead, the breakfast counter in the kitchen is used as dining area.

The master bedroom has been designed as a space to relax and rejuvenate. The adjacent courtyard has a water fountain and greenery too. This area has been built using leftover tiles and PVC pipes to reduce expenses. The remaining terracotta jali tiles have been paved on the ceiling here.

The quaint kitchen has everything arranged within the hand’s reach. Interestingly, there is no separate work area here. So, lots of storage spaces have been arranged in the kitchen.

Interestingly, the couple had designed the interiors in order to keep a check on the expenses. They were able to avoid unnecessary expenses as they had planned everything in advance. The construction of the house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a pocket-friendly budget of Rs 21 lakh.
