The scintillating palatial mansion at Vallakadavu near Kattapana in Idukki, Kerala has lately been a sensation on social media. The house called ‘Valummel House’ stands on a sprawling four-acre land and covers an area of whopping 27,000 sqft. Binoy Valummel who is a notable planter, cardamom farmer, and businessman is the owner of this enchanting mansion. Interestingly, the family had waited patiently for almost seven years to fulfil their dream of building the most magical mansion. This palatial house is so big and vast that it would take hours just to see around the areas.
The house is built atop a hill and has a main road running in the front. The mesmerizing fusion of contemporary, colonial and classic architectural styles grand a unique charm to this mansion. Meanwhile, the vast landscape paved with tiles and grass adds to the magical aura of the megastructure. The decorative lamps and the date palms look perfect on the nicely maintained landscape.
The regal beauty of the mansion could be enjoyed in all its glory when these lights are switched on at twilight. The structure, then, gets illuminated in a shower of golden light. The owner says that the traffic on the road in front of their house often gets blocked as crowds gather to catch a glimpse of the viral house.
There are lots of common spaces in the interiors that are designed for hosting guests and family. Interestingly, quite a number of living areas have been arranged in three stories here.
The ground floor has lots of living spaces, dining area, a kitchen with a work area, three bedrooms, bathrooms and a home theatre. Meanwhile, there are three more bedrooms, spacious bathrooms, gaming space and living areas on the first floor. Besides, the upper floor has an open bedroom, bar and a pavilion too. An elevator too has been installed here to connect the three floors.
The entrance door opens to the formal living area. This spacious area, with a double-height ceiling, has been furnished to accommodate up to sixteen persons. A prayer space which is highlighted with beautiful panelling and timber works is arranged close to this.
From here begins a corridor that leads to the main family living area. A TV unit too is installed here. The splendid elegance of Italian marble flooring adds a touch of royal panache to the spaces. Meanwhile, some areas are highlighted with natural wooden flooring.
The main hall of the mansion exudes the exuberant charm of a luxurious hotel lobby. The double-height ceiling boasts of intricate and beautiful wooden designer elements. Besides, the beauty of the ceiling is further enhanced with diligently curated light fittings. The pool is something that is hard to miss. In the initial plan, the pool was designed outside the house. However, later, the pool was included inside the house by extending other areas.
It is indeed a cliché when someone wonders, seeing a luxury mansion, whether the owner could have built houses for a few poor families using the money that he had splurged on his house. Here, the Valummel family has built houses for five homeless families even as they fulfilled their dream of building their luxury mansion. Besides, they donated land to rehabilitate those who had lost their homes in the deluge. It was through sheer hard work and perseverance that the owner, who had humble beginnings, built a grand business empire. Now, the family is grateful that they got the house of their dreams while helping other families fulfil their dream too.
