In metro cities where land costs a bomb, building a house, in limited space, by including all the basic amenities is truly a challenge. This beautiful house, built in just 2.9 cents, in Fort Kochi, Kerala is the best example of a space-efficient abode that boasts of all the amenities as well as eye-catching designs.

Fort Kochi is known for many old buildings designed in the Dutch architectural style. Ashith, a native of Fort Kochi, too wished for his dream dwelling to don the classic Dutch style. Sleek arches are the highlight of the Dutch-style buildings. The elevation features two dome-shaped roofs. Interestingly, the arch-style designs could be seen in the windows, doors and even the ceiling of this house.

Designed in 1400 sqft, the amazing abode has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with a work area, three bedrooms and bathrooms.

Interestingly, the uneven layout of the plot was turned into a design opportunity rather than a disadvantage. So, the house has many areas that do not feature any conventional shape or structure. Bringing natural light and air into the house when it is built on a really small plot is not an easy task. But, this house has been uniquely designed to ensure excellent air circulation and ample supply of natural sunshine too.

The spatial constraints were mostly overcome by arranging multipurpose areas. For instance, as the living area isn’t spacious enough to accommodate elaborate furniture sets, in-built concrete sitting spaces have been built close to the wall. Meanwhile, the dining area is part of the spacious hall. The wash area and staircase too are arranged here.

The ceiling above the stair area is the main source of natural light in this house. The skylight on the ceiling and the glass windows brings oodles of golden sunrays into the house.

The kitchen is compact and is furnished in vibrant green colour. As the kitchen is designed at the spot where the plot is a bit curved, this is quite evident in the structure here. The arch-shaped designs have been repeated in the bedrooms too. There are attached bathrooms and in-built wardrobes in the bedrooms.

The elegantly designed interiors look spacious and hardly feel like the house has been built in just 2.9 cents. The owner says that lots of people visit their brand-new house to enjoy the scintillating features of Dutch architecture.
