Vinod wanted a tranquil home, in the IT hub of Kakkanad in Ernakulam, Kerala, away from all the buzz of the busy city. The area which exudes rural vibes is surrounded by vibrant greenery and serene views of nature. However, the 5.6 cents uneven plot had posed quite a challenge to the design team.
The ground floor has a spacious living area, dining space, kitchen, two bedrooms and a curved veranda. Meanwhile, there are bedrooms, home studio and a balcony space adorned with jali walls on the upper floor. A home office and utility areas too have been added to this 1800 sqft house as well.
The timeless charm of traditional architecture merges with the chic elegance of contemporary style in this house. Teak and mahogany have been mostly used for furnishing the interiors. Meanwhile, the terracotta jalis and the wire cut bricks are fabulous designer elements that add earthy tones to the spaces. The colour palette used in the interiors are pleasant and highlight the unique designer elements.
The cross ventilation, covered veranda and the huge windows play pivotal roles in keeping the interiors naturally lit and cool. Meanwhile, the jalis built using mud bricks regulates the temperature inside the house.
Excellent creativity and space planning ensures that the spaces are cohesive and complement each other. Artistically designed screens and green buffers separate the spaces while ensuring privacy. The house stands out for embracing modernity without discarding the amazing elements of traditional architecture.
