Telangana became the venue for a beautiful gay wedding between Supriyo Chakraborty and Abhay Dange. The couple tied the knot at Hyderabad in the presence of their friends and family. Meanwhile, national media reports that this was the first gay wedding held in Telangana.
The couple took the oath at a luxuriously decorated venue. More than sixty guests from the LGBT community had attended the wedding. Music concerts and mehendi rituals added colour and joy to the ceremony.
Supriyo and Abhay exchanged rings and pledged their love for each other. Both looked dapper in white custom–made tuxedos. Sophia David, a member of the LGBT community had officiated the wedding.
Supriyo is a native of West Bengal while Abhay hails from Punjab. The couple had met through a popular dating app.
They have been living together for the last eight years. Even though their families were apprehensive in the beginning, they supported Supriyo and Abhay’s decision. The duo is happy that they have the blessing of their families.
However, their wedding cannot be registered as a gay wedding has no legal validity in India.
In 2018, the Supreme Court has decriminalised consensual sexual relations between same–sex partners. The LGBTQ community in India had welcomed the historic ruling. The plea to legalise same-sex weddings is under the apex court’s consideration.
