Youth runs from pillar to post with worm-infested fish, then 'buries' complaint

Pathirippala: A youth who found worms inside a fish while cutting it lost a day visiting several government offices trying to file a complaint. When all attempts failed, he finally buried the fish.

Sumesh of Palakkal in Akalur had bought a tuna from an Old Lakkidi native for Rs 100 on Wednesday morning. While cutting it, he saw that it was full of worms. The seller was a man who had reached the area on a two-wheeler.

Sumesh initially approached the police to file a complaint, but they asked him to inform the panchayat. The youth then went to the Lakkidi Perur panchayat, but the authorities directed him to the health department. Sumesh took the worm-infested fish to the Athirkadu primary health centre, only to be turned away. Authorities there told him the matter was to be dealt with by the food safety department.

However, Sumesh had no means to contact them. Finally, he buried the fish. Local people said that no checks are carried out on the fish sold on the roadside or local vendors. Though the health department was informed of the matter, the reply was that there were no provisions to inspect the fish.
