Elephant herd wreaks havoc at Pandallur

Pandallur, Malappuram: Another wild elephant attack has been reported from areas adjoining Kerala forests. Wild elephants that entered a residential area created panic and destroyed two houses and a vehicle at Pandallur. One of the jumbos that destroyed a house also lost a part of its tusk in the attack.
The elephant attack took place at Devalaya at Hatti. The two tuskers that reached the Hatti village at around 7.30 am on Tuesday destroyed the houses of Adityan and Dharmalingam and a car that was parked in front of the house of one Ponraj.
The asbestos sheet of Adityan's house and its front wall were destroyed in the attack. The car was attacked from the rear, shattering its windshield.
Later the elephants attacked the house of one Dharmalingam and in the process a part of the one of the jumbos' tusks broke off and fell inside the house. Forest officers took away the one-and-a-half-foot tusk.
People were informed about the presence of wild elephants. After three hours of wreaking havoc in the area, the jumbos were driven away by people. Crops worth lakhs of rupees were also damaged.
