New Delhi/Thiruvananthapuram: President Droupadi Murmu appointed Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar as the new Governor of Kerala on Tuesday. He replaces Arif Mohammed Khan, who will now serve as the Governor of Bihar, where Assembly polls are scheduled to be held next year.

Rajendra Arlekar was the 29th Governor of Bihar and previously served as the 21st Governor of Himachal Pradesh. The BJP leader from Goa was a Cabinet minister and a former Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly.

Other key gubernatorial appointments made by the President include former Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla's as Governor of strife-torn Manipur, ex-Army chief Vijay Kumar Singh as new Mizoram governor, and Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati as Governor of Odisha. According to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, these appointments will take effect from the dates they assume their respective offices.
