Marayamuttam police have initiated a probe after the bodies of a man and woman were found near the bathing ghat at Aruvippuram near Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.
The police have identified the deceased as Snehadev and Sreekala, who were residents of Muttada. Marayamuttam police have informed the couple's relatives about the death.

The duo had tied their hands together using a belt. The bodies were found near Plavila Kadavu along the road that runs parallel to Aruvippuram temple. Residents first spotted the body of a woman lying face down in water. They also saw two pairs of sandals on the steps leading to the ghat. Neyyatinkara fire force service received a call around 10.30 am.

The couple arrived in a car and parked it near the temple before proceeding to the river. The police recovered a suicide note, bank documents like passbooks and statements from a bag kept inside the car. The car key was wrapped in a plastic cover in Snehadev's trouser pocket. It is learnt that the couple had slipped into depression after the death of their 22-year-old son due to alleged medical negligence in 2024. Snehadev reportedly wore a belt that looked like from a school uniform.

Fire force officials said that the body was found around six feet away from the ghat. The body of a saree-worn woman was found in the water. "When her body was being taken to the bank, we noticed another body of a man in the water. Their hands were tied together using a belt-like material," said an official.
