Kozhikode rape attempt: Hotel owner arrested

Kozhikode: The police on Wednesday arrested Devadas, the key accused in a case related to a rape attempt on a 24-year-old woman in Mukkom. He was nabbed from Kunnamkulam, police said. He will be produced before the Thamarassery CJM court.
Devadas, who is a hotel owner and two others were booked for an alleged attempt to rape a woman after barging into her house. Riyas and Suresh, who are employed under Devadas, are the other accused in the case. Police have intensified the search for the duo, who are currently on the run. The incident took place on February 1. A video of the rape attempt, which was captured on the woman's mobile phone, was circulated on Tuesday, which showed the woman wailing and pleading with a man not to hurt her.

The woman jumped off the building while trying to escape from the rape attempt. The accused fled the scene when people rushed to the house compound after hearing her screams for help. The woman, a native of Kannur, was employed at a newly opened hotel in Kozhikode. She is currently admitted to the ICU of the Orthopedics Department at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital. She suffered fractures in her hip, spine, and upper limbs from the fall.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Women’s Commission directed Kozhikode Rural SP KE Baiju on Tuesday to submit a report on the incident.
