Mangad: Reviving a slice of traditional legacy, the local collective in Mangad organised a Kadikali competition, a village game of the bygone era.

 The event was held with the cooperation of various local associations, including the Mythri Reading Club and Library and Peoples Mangad, among others. With participants ranging in age from 12 to 60, the competition turned into a festive crowd-puller.

As many as 14 teams competed in the junior section, while 15 teams took part in the senior category. The Kadipalaka (game boards) used for the contest were collected from several village households. In earlier times, the game was traditionally played at homes using Manjadikkuru (red lucky seeds).

Organisers said the competition, staged as part of the Onam celebrations, was aimed at introducing the traditional game to the younger generation and keeping the heritage alive.

In the junior category, winners were Nisha Selvan, Nived Mani and P shivanand, while the senior category was won by Sreelakshmi Amaravathi, M Karthyayani and S Sreedharan. The matches were officiated by P V K Aramanganam, Vishwan Jayapuram, and K Raghavan. The valedictory session was inaugurated by P V Sumesh and presided over by K Gopalakrishnan, with T M Annamma distributing the prizes.
