Petta: After years of delay, the long-awaited Petta Junction development project has finally received administrative sanction. A sum of ₹99.70 lakh has been approved from the MLA’s Asset Development Fund for the project.
The master plan for the junction envisions a comprehensive upgrade, including the construction of a roundabout with a 25-metre radius, a 14.5-metre wide road, footpaths, traffic signals and proper drainage systems. The MLA’s intervention came after repeated concerns were raised about the lack of basic infrastructure at the junction, years after the completion of the metro rail construction.
In fact, the first meeting convened by Uma Thomas MLA after her recovery from an accident focused on the development of Petta Junction. Coordination has already begun with the Public Works Department, KSEB, Kerala Water Authority, BSNL, NHAI and Kochi Metro to relocate utilities at the site. The sanction letter for the project was handed over to the District Collector on August 14.
According to the MLA, the development of the junction will bring major improvements to the city’s transportation facilities and is expected to enhance connectivity across Kochi.
