Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has released ₹841 crore for distributing social security and welfare pensions to 62 lakh beneficiaries in the state for September. Finance Minister K N Balagopal said on Tuesday that eligible beneficiaries will receive ₹1,600 each from September 25.

Of the 62 lakh beneficiaries, 26.62 lakh will get the pension credited directly to their bank accounts, while the rest will receive it at their homes through cooperative banks. Balagopal said the Union government has yet to provide its share under the National Pension Scheme, which covers 8.46 lakh beneficiaries. The state has allocated ₹24.21 crore in advance to ensure disbursal, he added.

“The Centre’s share should be credited to the bank accounts of the respective beneficiaries through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS),” the minister said.

So far, the state has spent ₹42,841 crore on welfare pension distribution, Balagopal noted.
