Thrissur: A 26-year-old man who collapsed inside a train died after failing to receive timely medical help. The deceased is Sreejith, a native of Maramkodu, Chalakudy.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday on the Okha-Ernakulam Express. Sreejith, who was travelling to Thrissur, reportedly experienced chest pain soon after the train crossed Shoranur and collapsed inside the coach.

Fellow passengers immediately alerted the TTE, but the train did not stop at the nearby Vallathol Nagar station. Later, Sreejith was deboarded at Mulankunnathukavu railway station, where no ambulance was available.

He was left lying on the platform for nearly half an hour before an ambulance finally arrived. Though he was rushed to the Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Passengers and relatives said they had contacted the emergency helpline number, but the delay in dispatching an ambulance cost the young man his life.

Sreejith was the son of Subran of Mundopplly House, Maramkodu. His grieving family said they were not planning to file a complaint but hoped that no one else would have to endure such a tragedy again.

“If the ambulance had arrived on time, we wouldn’t have lost him,” his family said.
